a farewell to flesh

Showing

Benjamin Pohlig

Carnival has many cultures and faces – many are masked. Is this masquerade the promise to be someone else - if only for a moment? Could we locate in the carnival a tangible space of transformation in which existing relations of power are momentarily suspended? Or is carnival pure escapism? “a farewell to flesh” assumes the attraction and meaning of carnival in order to investigate if each society is in need of spaces that allow for transformative forces to take shape? We attempt to make theatre such a space. A space in which it is permitted to dream, devise and be differently. The open rehearsals of “a farewell to flesh” invite to festivities somewhere between carnival and collective dance. They are a practical attempt of being together differently. We want to learn from bodies dancing together – relinquished to the game of the masquerade - about being together in general.
