Re-imagining a future through movement

Performance-Projekt

Performance project: Re-imagining a future through movement (fully booked)

Is it possible for us to collectively, and individually, re-imagine our future through movement? In a world beset by wars, inequality, injustice, discrimination, racism, corruption, poverty, climate change, human rights abuses, terrorism, etc, how do we move in response to these problems? How can dance address these issues and create changes? What can we really achieve, within the confines of a studio? These are the key questions that we will be asking in this project. I would like to gather a group of social movers to question and tease out the nature and the purpose of dance and movement. Why do we dance and what are we dancing for? This project asks each of us to re-look at the reasons we dance/move and attempts to help us develop a personal relation to what moves us. Participants will bring in their own research questions and together we will develop strategies for collaborative transformation, harnessing the interactive process as a tool. Movements and moving become both an individual, as well as, a collective effort. Other than being a practice-based research in movement-making, this project also hopes to open up broader socio-political questions and implications about movement, about individual/collective agency, and about collaboration and community in movement-making. This project welcomes socially-conscious movers, dancers, performers, philosophers, educators, body-workers or anyone who wishes to create a more empathetic and connected future through movements.

Open training: The body relates

The focus of my open class is to understand and find movement through the way our body relates. We explore how the body reaches out and makes contact with bodies other than our own. The guiding principle is that movement/dance is a function of how we relate to each other. We start our investigation with our own body, and observe how relating to another body can open up new possibilities and guide the way we move. The aim is to produce an awareness of the network of body relations that we are situated within and to which we are also actively contributing. And inside this network, our body finds its freedom to move.
