apap production studio berlin  – Time to Meet: Charlie Prince

Open Studio

In Berlin - we will be continuing the research we had started in Lebanon during the summer. This revolves around the question of tuning. In music tuning is the process of adjusting the pitch of one or many tones from a musical instrument to establish typical intervals between these tones – or a sort of harmony – a meeting point that allows the musicians to play together. The basis of our research currently lies in transfering this practice to the body. What does a body that is tuned look like? How do we tune to each other? We believe the practice of agreeing on a given frequency in order to perform a specific act can be quiet a meaningful metaphor when taken into the world at large. We are constantly tuning to each other – in and out – through presence – through absence – through avoidance of collision – through norms and social structures. We are also looking into the ritualistic nature of tuning; as for example is demonstrated in symphony orchestras.

This takes place within the framework of the Satellite project, a special cooperation with "Maqamat / Beit El Raqs" in Lebanon and apap - advancing performing arts project.
