Isabell Spengler is a film maker and artist working in expanded cinema. In her films and video installations she analyzes and mediates diverging constructions of realities, imaginary worlds and their representation. Inhabiting a world of self-designed costumes, props, language, logic and time-structure, her fantastic looking protagonists transform the real environments they encounter. Developing new conceptual forms of structural, narrative and expanded cinema, she collaborated as a performer, director and author with choreographer Antonia Baehr, composer*/performer* Neo Hülcker, artist/film maker Lucile Desamory and Los Angeles-based sculptor Alice Könitz, amongst many others. She is a member of the feminist art collective Maternal Fantasies, founded in 2018.
