In the frame of Open Spaces – Making It Happen #2

As part of the OPEN SPACES Making it Happen #2 festival, radialsystem and Tanzfabrik Berlin present the world premiere of "ARA! ARA!". The performance is the second part of the work conceived as a diptych; with "AeReA", part one celebrated its premiere at the "Triennale di Milano" 2019. "ARA! ARA!" draws on the folkloric tradition of "flag-waving" and explores its symbolic power. The central moment of the performance is the examination of forms of representation of power. As a meta-level, the letters "ARA" (Latin for altar) in the title refer to the place in antiquity where the highest representatives of the state offered sacrifices. With the parrot "ARA", Ginevra/Ticconi also introduce another symbol of power in the performance: Due to its acrobatic and linguistic abilities, as well as its strikingly beautiful the macaw, due to its acrobatic and linguistic abilities as well as its strikingly beautiful appearance, is a prime example of an animal that humans have domesticated for a specific purpose. It becomes visible here as a symbol of rising power, which, like the bird, seduces by its friendly and sociable nature - and tempts us to ignore repetition and imitation of power patterns of the past as well as the content and effects of its impact.

Ginevra Panzetti & Enrico Ticconi

Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi have been working as a duo since 2008. Their artistic research interlaces dance and visual art. Deepening themes related to the historical union between communication, violence and power, they draw on ancient imaginaries, creating hybrid figures or images between history and contemporaneity.
Both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and attended Stoà, School for rhythmic movement and philosophy, led by Claudia Castellucci.
In 2010 they moved to Germany and delved into mutually complementary paths: Ginevra studied Media Art at HGB in Leipzig and Enrico Dance, Context, Choreography at HZT in Berlin.
