The weather in the room (Slowdance)

Performance by Hana Lee Erdman, Louise Dahl
In the frame of Sommer Tanz 2021

The weather in the room explores altered states of speed through the emotional, meditative and ambient effects of bodies and landscapes. Sliding between gesture and stillness, passing flow into form, movement enmeshes with the dreamy hybridity of time and attention as material. We have zoomed into a point where fluctuating particles of color, light, texture and detail become visible, an experiment with planes of existence beyond the boundaries of contemporary personhood. Isolated from its causes and purposes in choreographic pasts and futures, this molecular thingness seems to unwrap at a level below action, utility, efficiency or (however abstract) causal unfolding.

SLOWDANCES is a series of works where every piece describes a slow experience inside different iterations of context: the theater, the museum, the forest, the church. The phrase ‘slow dance’ is used both as a title and gathering term for dance that resonates with the wider genre of Slow Art: an art movement of embodied watching that calls attention to the experience of time unfolding.

Hana Lee Erdman

Hana Lee Erdman is a U.S. American artist based in Europe working within the field of dance and choreography. Central in her work is the notion of companionship as an orientation and organizing principle, with which she explores movement, thought, performativity, and our relationship to community, environment, and more than human creatures. She creates works across a wide range of kinds; namely dance, performance, social choreography, installation and video. Her work is presented internationally in the contexts of galleries, museums, theaters, churches, music venues and art festivals. Together with Louise Dahl she is engaged in a long-term research and collaboration which has resulted in several dance creations. She is an educator and mentor at various international centers and programs in Europe. She has a Masters Degree in Dance/Authorship from the higher educational Center for Dance at the College of Fine Arts, Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin).
