Floating Roots

Performance · Premiere by Inky Lee
In the frame of Fold – Intersecting Memories

Tickets
«Floating Roots» is about the lives of the 1.5 and 2nd generation immigrants, especially the ones who are Asian-read and are Queer. Many of them are children of guest workers who came to Germany in the 1960s and 70s. The soundscore weaves together interview excerpts of 17 people who speak about their lives. Six of the interviewees, who aren't professional performers nor dancers, appear onstage as performers, along with a deaf performer who is an Asian immigrant herself. After just a few rehearsals that were conducted mostly one-on-one with the artistic director, all of the performers meet for the first time at the dress rehearsal on the night before the premiere.

A large part of the performance will be translated into international sign language (IS).
