“Long & Wild” is a durational experimental dance performance that creates a queer context for being intimately together through multiple shifting worlds where grief, transformation, and love intersect. It will be part choreography, part party, part funeral, and part community conversation. What if dance performance can simultaneously be time travel/communion/habitat/ritual that cultivates togetherness between audience and performers? “Long & Wild” aims to be an unruly overload of pleasure and critical inquiry that straddles and queers dominant notions of violence, care, pleasure, play, and gender.
In 2021 - 2023, Makisig Akin and Anya Cloud created three distinct choreographic works, individually and collectively, titled “Give me your heart. No, the real one.”, “Everything Deserves to Breathe”, and “We Are (nothing) Everything”. Within “Long & Wild”, they re-enter the material of these works through the intersections of grief, transformation and love. What happens when survival meets fantasy?
Accessibility Note
This work will be approximately 3 hours long. The performance begins with everyone together at 19 h. The audience is free to stay or leave at any time. There will be different seating arrangements with cushions, chairs, and standing options. The audience can shift their location and/or proximity to the performers at any point in the work. There will be a live DJ with loud music. Performers will be engaging with the audience verbally and physically (with consent). There will be access to a bar in the lobby and light snacks will be available.

The Tanzfabrik offers selected events with audio description and a so-called Haptic Access Tour (tactile tour). This includes live and recorded audio descriptions for blind and visually impaired visitors and, in addition, sensory access consultations.
Makisig Akin
I am a queer, transgender Filipino born choreographer, dance artist, facilitator, and activist. I was born and raised in the Philippines and am currently based in Berlin, Germany. My work focuses on the recognition of intersectional identities, reconnecting with my ancestry, and decentralizing Western ideologies in dance making. Holding Queer and BIPoC spaces is an integral part of my artist activism. I hold spaces, both choreographically and educationally, by examining how survival strategies can be translated into a communal physical practice, which I then use as a catalyst to a potential creative healing process. My orientation to Contact Improvisation is deeply interconnected with my training in Filipino Traditional Dance, Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Improvisation, walking meditation, Authentic Movement, bouldering/climbing, and Contemporary Dance. I have been practicing Contact Improvisation for 14 years and have taught in many different communities including HZT, UCLA, Tanzfabrik Schule, The Field Center, BeingTouch, and Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation among others. Important Collaborators and teachers include mayfield brooks, Jason Tsou, Anya Cloud, Nara Virgens, Eric Geiger, Ajani Brannum, and taisha paggett, among others. I co-founded The Love Makers, a project-based dance company, with Anya Cloud. I am also a co-founder with Nara Virgens of the Emerging Change Tanzfestival, a dance festival featuring and curating Queer and BIPoC Artists and their collaborators. www.makisigakin.com
Anya Cloud
Anya Cloud is an experimental contemporary dance artist practitioner originally from Alaska and currently based between Colorado and Berlin. As a queer, cis-gender, female, white person she orients her work to cultivate radical aliveness as an artist-activist practice; collaboration is central for her. Her work has been produced/supported by Dock 11, Movement Research at the Judson, Workshop Foundation, freeskewl, La MaMa, LA Performance Practice, REDCAT, Tanzquartier, and Guatemala Department of Culture among others. Her important collaborators include Makisig Akin, Sara Shelton Mann, Karen Schaffman, Eric Geiger, Ishmael Houston-Jones, and Nhu Nguyen among others. Cloud currently teaches at the University of Colorado Boulder.
