Performance project: Re-Movement-Search

Performance-Projekt with Shai Faran

In my way of working, movement research contains three main layers of work:
- The movement vocabulary, the material, the movements themselves.
- The quality in which we are performing those movements.
- A concept or an idea that we can put on the material and the quality, or, in other words- what do we want to do with it. These three layers have to co-exist, to function together, to nourish one another, to influence each other, to be able to exist independently and to become one, eventually.

The base layer is the physical vocabulary, which is where we will begin. We will establish the movement material by working with different movement principles, restrictions and limitations, and will work towards developing a specific way of moving. After the material is established, we will start to build a certain quality, which will affect the vocabulary itself. After these two layers are present, to a certain level, we will start to introduce a concept on top, which will lead to a deeper way of thinking and looking on the material and the quality itself. To me, the different combination between different vocabularies, qualities and concepts is the research itself. If everything was already invented, what is left for us to do is to re-compose, re-discover, re-organise things in new constellations and re-search. This project will expose the participants to my on-going movement-re-search and will lead them through its progression to give a taste the potential of this way of working, but more then that- it will give them the tools to develop their own research.
