Morning Groove

Kurs with Soroa Lear, Victoria McConnell, Sara Lu

In the frame of Summer/ing at Tanzfabrik

This class is a happening where all movers can join. No matter what your background is, whether you dance in clubs or don’t dance, do belly dance or ballet, all of you are welcome to this Movement Experience.  Morning & Evening Groove seeks as an internal and sensorial, rather than a visual experience of movement and dance. The class is based on the premise that movement always exists in all of us all the time and is a celebration of this movement and the sensations we can receive from it. By understanding and experiencing the functionality of our body — its anatomy, layers, and mobility — we can exist in a space between activating/directing our movement and giving in to its forces. This naturally creates sensations in our body which can stimulate the inevitable continuation of movement. This class is created and offered as a place for anyone who is curious to move, who likes to breathe, to dance up a sweat; for those wanting to ground the mind in the body and to embody spaciousness.

Soroa Lear

Soroa Lear (she/her) is a queer Cuban-American dancer, performer, and writer based in Berlin. She studied dance and comparative literature at Reed College, sparking her interest in the intersections of movement and critical theory. Influenced by physical theater, drag, Gaga, and nightclub culture, she sees performance as a way to break hearts and make people laugh—connecting the dramatic and subtle, ugly and beautiful. She has worked with Staatsoper Berlin, Deva Schubert, Rebecca Howell, Sebastian Abarbanell, and Aru Ray Tormann, and performed at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlinische Galerie, Sophiensaele, KINDL, Ballhaus Ost, Uferstudios, and in many nightclubs with drag artists. She has created and performed works including Look! Lilies, Limerence (2024) and THIS IS A LOVE STORY(2025), and is part of the collective RAYNE & CEREMONY. She also teaches the improvisation class VIBRANT BODY at Tanzfabrik Berlin, and her writing has been published by Penny Press and Confluence Journal.

Victoria McConnell

Victoria McConnell performs, teaches, and creates body-based art which is grounded in relationality and curiosity. Born and raised in California, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Belhaven University in 2008 and subsequently worked as a freelancer in the United States. Since 2015 she has lived in Berlin and works across Europe. As a dance artist, Victoria develops her own interdisciplinary projects, collaborates with FREYAS connective and has performed with Irina Pauls, Sommer Ulrickson, Tanz Company Gervasi, Sara Angius and for the Staatsoper Berlin, among others. McConnell also performs and dances in film and television productions. In addition to her artistic work, she has been teaching contemporary dance, ballet, improvisation and jazz since 2009. Animate Objects is an extension of her current work, MaterialBody

Sara Lu

Sara Lu (she/they) is a Berlin-based performer, movement director, and facilitator with a background in ballet, contemporary          dance, and Butoh. Throughout their artistic journey, Sara continually seeks authentic expression and tools to bridge inner experiences with the physical realm. They explore somatic awareness, the use of voice and sound, and various dance and movement approaches to achieve this connection. Since 2016, Sara has been working as an in-house choreographer at RambaZamba Theater, an inclusive institution that empowers artists with disabilities. For more information, visit www.saralu.de
