Evening Groove

Kurs with Soroa Lear

In the frame of Summer/ing at Tanzfabrik

This class is a happening where all movers can join. No matter what your background is, whether you dance in clubs or don’t dance, do belly dance or ballet, all of you are welcome to this Movement Experience.  Morning & Evening Groove seeks as an internal and sensorial, rather than a visual experience of movement and dance. The class is based on the premise that movement always exists in all of us all the time and is a celebration of this movement and the sensations we can receive from it. By understanding and experiencing the functionality of our body — its anatomy, layers, and mobility — we can exist in a space between activating/directing our movement and giving in to its forces. This naturally creates sensations in our body which can stimulate the inevitable continuation of movement. This class is created and offered as a place for anyone who is curious to move, who likes to breathe, to dance up a sweat; for those wanting to ground the mind in the body and to embody spaciousness.

Soroa Lear

Soroa Lear (she/her) is a queer Cuban-American dancer, performer, and writer based in Berlin. She completed her studies in dance and comparative literature at Reed College, which sparked her interest in the intersections of movement and critical theory. Her work is heavily influenced by physical theater, drag, Gaga, and nightclub culture. She sees performance as a way to break hearts and make people laugh, connecting to the dramatic and the subtle, the ugly and the beautiful. She has worked for Staatsoper Berlin, Deva Schubert, Rebecca Howell, Sebastian Abarbanell, and Aru Ray Tormann amongst others, and has performed in spaces such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlinische Galerie, Sophiensaele, KINDL- Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Ballhaus Ost, Uferstudios Berlin, and many nightclubs with many drag queens. She has created and performed her own works, including “Look! Lilies, Limerence” (2024) and “THIS IS A LOVE STORY” (2025). She is currently a member of the performance collective RAYNE & CEREMONY. Alongside her performance work, she teaches a tri-weekly improvisation class, “VIBRANT BODY” at Tanzfabrik Berlin. Her written works have been published by Penny Press and Confluence Journal.
