Description

This workshop guides participants to find connections between the dancing body and the natural flow of energy within and around us through the discovery of the five elements (Earth, Water, Wood, Metal, and Fire) as expressed through the meridian system (energy pathways) that run through our bodies. It is about exploring the qualities of the elements by following the physical location of the meridians on the body and practicing how to balance energy through self-bodywork technique (Shiatsu), movement patterns, as well as imagery and improvisation tasks that allow dancers to embody the endless qualities of the meridians: fluidity, grounding, compassion, and adaptability. Craving to find balance and harmony both physically and emotionally, this exploration encourages participants to learn how to take advantage of their unique characteristics through the awareness of the meridians and to feel open to new possibilities of movement, inspiring our creative spirit.
Biographies

Ori Flomin

Ori Flomin began his journey as a dancer, building an international career as a performer and touring artist. He holds an MFA in Dance from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. His choreography has been presented in NYC at Dance Theater Workshop, Movement Research at Judson church, LaMama Theater, Gibney Dance, Arts on Site and internationally in Europe, Japan, India, Australia, and Israel. As he navigated dance’s physical demands, he sought holistic approaches to sustain his body and mind, leading him to Yoga and Shiatsu. This discovery deepened his understanding of the body-mind-spirit connection, shaping a path he has followed for over 25 years. Ori trained at the Ohashi Institute (Shiatsu, 2001) and Bhava Yoga (Yoga, 2003). He has taught Dance, Yoga, and Shiatsu worldwide at top institutions, including Princeton, Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, and NYU Tisch, where he is currently an adjunct professor. His workshops, focusing on self-care and balance, have been embraced internationally in Europe and beyond, both in-person and online.
