Description

Imaginary Bodies is a choreographic workshop that explores the poetics of physicality through embodied imagination. Through movement, sound and imagery, we stimulate the discovery of the body and its untamed potentials. Rooted in Yara Boustany’s ongoing research, this process gave birth to the performance The Valley of Sleep. Participants will dive into intuitive improvisation to create hybrid beings—spirits, creatures, gods—that emerge from the conscious and unconscious self. Through this embodiment, we undo habitual patterns and explore primal impulses. The workshop invites participants to tap into unacquainted forces slumbering within their bodies—allowing the imaginary bodies to emerge.

Yara Boustany

Yara Boustany is a Lebanese multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, performer, and artistic researcher born in Ghbeleh, Lebanon. Her work spans choreography, visual art, and performance, exploring sensorial stimuli that guide humans toward unexplored dimensions of existence - she looks for enchantment and disturbance.  Yara’s creative process draws on imagination and improvisation, unlocking the infinite potential of the body and voice, free from conventional constraints. She is the founder of Amalgam Studio Beirut, one of the few remaining performing arts spaces in Beirut, dedicated to alternative artistic expression. She holds an MA in Choreography from Codarts and Fontys University of the Arts in the Netherlands, a diploma in Circus and Theater from CAU in Spain, and a BA in Cinema and Audiovisuals from ALBA in Beirut.
