S-12 / Voice & Movement

Workshop with H2DANCE Heidi Rustgaard & Hanna Gillgren
In the frame of Open Spaces/Sommer Tanz 2017

Working with improvisation and set material, we will explore ways of making, questioning and observing material for performance. The group will take turns to experience the work both as performers and spectators and look at ways in which a performance can become immersive moving in and around, and perhaps at times involve the audience. Drawing inspiration from the participants themselves, using personal stories and experiences as starting point for making, exploring how we meet and interact with each other across age groups, backgrounds and experiences.

The workshop will give the participants the opportunity to collaborate with highly acclaimed professional artists whose work has been exploring the relationship between voice and movement for the last 10 years in their projects such as ‘Say Something’, where they collaborated with choirs and ‘Duet’, where they worked with text and song, drawing from personal stories. The workshop will give the participants the understanding of the differing relationships between voice and movement as well as the performer and spectator. It will enable the participants an insight into H2DANCE’s approach to making and performing work, where the focus is one the immersive, interdisciplinary and where voice and movement go hand in hand.

People of diverse physicalities are very welcome and encouraged to attend. Unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users.

H2DANCE Heidi Rustgaard & Hanna Gillgren

H2DANCE is choreographer/performer duo Hanna Gillgren (SE) and Heidi Rustgaard (NO), working between Norway, Sweden and the UK since 1999. Their work sits in between performance and dance and can be characterized as interdisciplinary, often taking a humorous approach to serious subject matters. Hanna and Heidi have an ongoing fascination with meetings of differences, exploring ways in which we negotiate hierarchy, conformity, power and manipulation. They are currently touring their most recent work ‚Staging Ages’, a collaboration with 5 dancers aged 11 – 67, their Place Prize for Dance audience vote winning piece ‚Duet’ and their acclaimed choir piece ‚Say Something’. 2017 sees H2DANCE developing ‚20 Strangers’, a work without performers where the audience are the protagonist. www.h2dance.com
