S-09 / The Body – The Player – The Journey

Rafaela Sahyoun

In the frame of Open Spaces/Sommer Tanz 2019

Rafaela Sahyoun creates in her workshop a playful, physical, encouraging and deeply sensitive space to experience dance. Balancing joy of movement, lightness and deep awareness to the totality of the body in motion, in relation and in context. The workshop aims to unfold our intrinsic intelligence re- garding movement going through a variety of body qualities and states. Therefore Rafaela invites all levels of experience to join and create movement in real time, digging into presence and performa- tivity, building layers of trust both within our own knowledge and in the group we work with. Finding on the one hand autonomy to one’s own interest and movement practice and on the other hand equally putting it in relation to others. The practice will open our cognitive channels and lead us to develop movement strategies together and move towards a collective energy.

Rafaela Sahyoun is a dance artist based in São Paulo, Brazil. Currently as a maker, she is ahead of the collective performance NINGUEMMESOLTA, as well as the creator of her solo work Giant, in colla- boration with Dj Chá Di Lirian. She performed f.ex. in SUPERNADA by Clarice Lima, and in the piece REPLAY by the Porto based choreographer Renan Martins and is the artistic director and curator of Saia Pra Santa – dança e práticas corporais; a dance immersive program in Brazil since 2017. Her work shifts between performing, producing, curating and designing experiences within the arts. In parallel, teaching plays a big role in her practice. Since returning to Brazil in 2014, after 8 years studying and performing dance abroad, Rafaela developed a way to maintain a personal creative dance practice and share it, both as a dancer and teacher. She has been teaching dance in workshop formats alongside immersive dance practices for different dance companies as well as public institutions.
