Einav Katan-Schmid

Einav Katan-Schmid is an independent researcher, dance maker, dance instructor and dramaturge based in Berlin. Her work is in the intersection of dance practice, technology, philosophy and culture making. Most recently she has led the interdisciplinary practice-based research project ‘Playing with Virtual Realities’ at the Excellence Cluster: An Interdisciplinary Laboratory at Humboldt University of Berlin and DOCK 11 Berlin. She is a core convener for the international network ‘Performance Philosophy’ and a co-founder of ‘Mo.Ré, a collective for movement research’ (Berlin). She serves on the editorial Board of the book series Studies in Dance History (Dance Studies Association and Michigan University Press) and published on dance practice from the perspectives of embodied philosophies of perception, pragmatist aesthetics and hermeneutics. Her book ‘Embodied Philosophy in Dance; Gaga and Ohad Naharin’s Movement Research’ was published with Palgrave Macmillan (2016). Einav has a PhD in philosophy from Tel-Aviv University, Israel (2014), a dance teaching diploma from Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports, Israel (2007) and an extensive background as a trained dancer. She teaches Embodied Research and dance improvisation classes together with Mo.Ré Collective.
