S-08 / Breath, Movement and Artistic Practice

Lisa Densem, Jana Unmüßig

In the frame of Sommer Tanz 2020 - Update coming 5.6.20!

In this workshop Lisa Densem and Jana Unmüßig invite us to spend time with the phenomena of breath, understanding it as an existential process of life and living. Encompassing experiential, conceptual and historical aspects of breath, they will give insight into the holistic endeavor of engaging with one’s breath. The workshop will be grounded in the context of contemporary dance and choreography but is open to those with an artistic practice of any kind. Lisa Densem will share her work on the interrelatedness of breath and movement, deriving her teaching from the breathwork practice, ‘BreathExperience’. Based on Ilse Middendorf, this form of breathwork emphasises the ‘allowing’ breath: allowing the breath to come and go on its own. Jana Unmüßig will introduce possibilities of choreographic procedures that can arise with heightened breath awareness. She will also share a conceptual/historical framework through which to think the phenomena of breath, considering the work of different artists and looking at scholarly research on breath in the second half of 20th century.
