Omnivore

Performance · Premiere by July Weber

In the frame of Fold – New Works

Tickets
«Omnivore» engages with the concept of the chimera: a term denoting both a mythological and a scientific phenomenon - a hybrid composed of different animal and human body parts. Broadening this theme, the work deals with supposed binary opposites, such as animals and humans, the natural and the urban, trust and fear, improvisation and composition – and explores the possible gradations across the entire spectrum between them, from coexistence to intersection. Crucially, rehearsals for the piece took place outdoors, in forests, under bridges and on construction sites. The experience of rehearsing in these open, public surroundings informed and formed the performers’ bodies as well as the music. Focusing on physicality when exposed and vulnerable, they try to find a place of permeable independence, to discover realms in which they are simultaneously receptive, sensitive and decisive in their approach to the outer and inner world (or child). Finally, the work examines the implications of translating the exposed outdoor experience into the protected frame of an institutional architecture, asking: What happens when these environmentally influenced vibrancies are codified and performed in the dubious context of theatrical representation?

The performance «Omnivore» features one dancer.

↪ FURTHER BIOGRAFIES

Fifi x Abortion meld brains and bodies in pursuit of red-hot tension and tender bliss. Drawing on their backgrounds in hip hop, electro-acoustic, free improvisation, different kinds of dance music, punk, and metal, they create trippy, intense sonic vibes to physically communicate with other bodies.

Emilio Cordero Checa is a lighting designer, sound artist, and creative technician, dedicated to the production and creation of light-sound installations and interdisciplinary performing art pieces. His work focuses on the interaction between live performances and new technologies using light and sound to conjugate mechanical and human interaction on stage. He holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary, Technological and Performing Arts from the Basque Country University.

Bryana Fritz is a choreographer, dancer, writer and dramaturge. She works at the interface of poetry and performance, often in duet with the OS X user interface. Her work is informed by her interest in medieval literature, fanfiction, media studies, and histories of illiteracy. She collaborates with Henry Andersen to host the Slow Reading Club.
