Description

In this workshop, Abhilash Ningappa explores the intersection of martial arts and contemporary dance, guiding dancers to access movement options through composition and creative response. Beginning with a thorough warm-up, participants engage in movement practices influenced by Kalari Payattu and contemporary dance techniques, progressing towards refined improvisation. Ningappa’s research delves into sensory perceptions linked to early experiences and memory. The workshop emphasizes breath, speed, and energy, fostering a connection between the body, space, and others. Participants create scores to simulate events, allowing the body’s instincts to lead before the mind reflects. This approach encourages tapping into emotions to navigate spaces shaped by past experiences. Through tasks and scores, dancers practice detaching the mind from the body, facilitating spontaneous reactions. The workshop enables participants to replay memories with fresh perspectives, fostering awareness of transitions between emotional intensities.
