Description

When you improvise, how do you hold what you are moving with? How would you define it for yourself? In this workshop, we will explore the relationship between movement and the ways we articulate it. Through guided exercises, we will work on expressing what we are engaged with as we move and improvise—whether in words, shapes, textures, or other forms—allowing for greater clarity, presence, and the ability to develop, play with, and revisit our material. We will begin with a somatic-based warm-up, tuning into sensation, connecting with the floor, and engaging with others in the group. From there, we will dive into extended guided improvisations, writing, observing, and sharing reflections. This practice invites a deeper understanding of how we identify and conceptualize movement and how that shapes our dance. It is an embodied exploration of improvisation as a choreographic way of thinking.
