This workshop opens up a playing field of improvisational scores in which the relationships that shape our dancing take center stage. What connections does our dance reveal? What does our dance tell us about the fabric in which we are woven? As we come together in this dark season, a special space emerges we encounter each other as a group—not to act from the individual, but to draw from the in-between, from the living dynamic between us. Slow, meditative exercises from craniosacral bodywork serve this purpose, sharpening our perception and promoting a deep sense of physical and energetic connection. Improvisation tasks and games open up new possibilities for relating to each other through dance, as well as to space, time, rhythm, and musicality. Finally, we deconstruct, twist, and rewrite these tasks and principles until new dance structures emerge. The resulting dances grow out of the dynamics of this specific group—out of the place, the moment, and the togetherness. The aim is to question familiar notions of dance and to develop a broader understanding of the body, movement, and choreography.
