In this workshop, we will dance in conversation to understand and research energy, technique, rhythm, form and more. Inspired by contemporary dance, martial arts, healing practices, and almost-forgotten children’s games, we will study our subjective anatomy: joints, body maps, connective tissues, fluids, and other subtle channels of the body. We will use these principles, laws, and stories to open portals to our improvisation, finding the blind spot in our movement while questioning the identity of dance and ourselves. How can we approach knowledge from a place of not knowing? How might we nurture a beginner’s mind within ourselves, led by the wisdom of nature? In what ways can we negotiate with our impulses?
How does the inner landscape shape everything we encounter and create? Through the lens of polite intensity, how do we share, communicate, learn, unlearn, deconstruct, and rebuild?
This workshop aims to bring individual agency to a group dynamic where listening, communication, responsibility, and ecology are prioritized allowing us to play the longest game possible while keeping it interesting.
