W-02 / Dances of Aliveness and Presence – Skinner Releasing Technique™
In the frame of Winter Tanz 2019/20
Skinner Releasing Technique™ (SRT) is an integrative approach to movement developed by American dance artist Joan Skinner. It is recognized as a significant way to experience and empower the creative self in the act of dancing, tapping into one’s own imagination, intuition and wisdom. SRT stimulates the process of letting go of unnecessary tension, releasing new possibilities in how we perceive and how we dance. Poetic imagery and hands-on partner studies facilitate deep and more nuanced kinaesthetic experience of movement. Noticing as a first step for change and allowing movement to happen are key to this practice that provides specific tools to access effortlessness and multi-directional alignment, depth, presence and freedom in movement and stillness. We will engage with the foundational SRT principles individually, with a partner, and as a group.
Bettina Neuhaus is an Amsterdam-based dance artist, mentor and certified Skinner Releasing Technique™ (SRT) teacher at Introductory (2004) and Ongoing (2011) levels. Has been creating work for over 25 years, collaborating with dancers, musicians, visual artists and poets. Alongside her work as dancer and improviser, she creates performative installations and lecture-performances. Her work is propelled by her fascination for the dancing body, with its inherent imagination and intelligence, its poetry and infinite possibilities of transformation and expression through which we connect to the world. Current artistic work includes collaborations with Eva Karczag, Ursula Sabatin, Maya M. Carroll, Akemi Nagao and Paolo Cingolani. She teaches SRT and Instant Composition at major academies, universities and studios throughout Europe and South America.
