Workshop with Roee Be'er
In the frame of Open Spaces/Sommer Tanz 2019

Movement is a biological need. We move from one place to another to find food, create social connections and live a full life. We produce and perceive movement says the researcher, Maggie Shiffrar, in her quotation: »Human action is a particular sensory event. It is an event that the observer can produce himself«. Movement and perception are strongly interrelated. Without perceiving the world we cannot move. Through movement, we create new settings for our system to receive information. In this workshop we will explore the way we receive forces and movement with our bodies and react on it by producing new movements. We will use group Feldenkrais lessons and the practice of functional integration, as well as practices of the Japanese martial art of Aikido - like receiving and redirecting movement.

Roee Be'er

Roee Be’er was born in Israel and is based in Munich. His teaching and therapy work is grounded in years long practice of the Feldenkrais method and Aikido (3ed Dan black belt). Roee completed his M.Sc. in Sport Science in the Technical University Munich where he researched Balance Control and Motor Learning. He practiced Aikido with Miles Kessler, Patrick Cassidy and Thor Schoo, and the Feldenkrais method with Basil Glazer and Rachel Elazar. In his work Roee highlights structure and freedom, playfulness and ease of movement, and interaction with the environment as a pathway to development of new sensorimotor capabilities. He worked at the renowned Israeli dance company Vertigo, and with dancers from Batsheva Dance Company. He was also a guest teacher at the Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company and the Tanzfabrik Berlin.
