Description

In collaboration with Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. and external guests, the project RESIST! hosts weekly “Assemblies” from March 5 to May 7: every Thursday evening** from 5–7 pm, everyone interested is invited to gather at Uferstudio 5.

The Assembly on 12.03. will be hosted in the form of an open general assembly by Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. (ZTB): Since 2000, the association has represented the interests of practitioners in dance, choreography, and performance in Berlin. Its aim is to create fair and productive conditions for the art form of dance and to promote transparent and equitable communication between artists, policymakers, and the public.

With the format of the “Assemblies,” we aim to offer the independent scene space and time for broader cultural and political exchange. While digital connections tend to encourage fast, largely anonymous and individualized expressions of opinion, we choose to invest in real social cohesion. Through the “Assemblies,” we create a solidaric setting in which reflection and discussion can take place live and on site. Together, we want to explore how we can sustainably defend artistic freedom — in the face of current cuts to cultural funding and the normalization of right-wing positions within wider society.

During each assembly, the Freelance Dance Ensemble Berlin will give a 10-15 minute presentation calling on all dance and cultural professionals to make their changed realities visible. More information here.

Here is the official appeal from Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. (Association of Contemporary Dance Berlin):

„We warmly invite all members and non-members to our assembly — a chance to take our pulse and gather together. What do you struggle with and what do you resist: care and exploitation, community and loneliness, visibility, erasure and survival. Let’s make these individual problems into collective questions.

We will talk about our interconnected struggles without flattening our differences. How do these tensions appear differently across our lives, bodies, migration histories, economic positions and artistic constellations?  How can we resist together, how can we support each other? Community is not given. This is a chance for us to practice.

Bring a question. Bring an experience. Bring a friend from the field whose voice you also want to see amplified. Let’s make visible the needs in order to orientate our agenda for the next 1,5 years, ZTB is as strong as the voices and the plurality of its members. The more we are, the more we are.

WE, the ZTB e.V.

STRENGTHEN the infrastructure for dance, choreography, and performance in Berlin
REPRESENT your interests to politicians, city councils and the public
CONNECT artists and cultural workers to confront shared crises
SHARE knowledge and build collective power through regular workshops
ADDRESS relevant issues through its working groups.“
