Freelance Dance Ensemble Berlin (FDEB) was formed in late 2024 in response to Berlin's cultural funding cuts. A loose collective of artists created the website called FDEB and invited colleagues to add faces and stories of themselves being threatened by the cuts in the field.
Throughout 2025, FDEB gathered around the topics of unionisation, system change, decolonising non-violent communication, mental health, mutual aid, direct action, and workers' rights — through workshops, meetings, and dialogue with existing structures.

„Now in 2026, Freelance Dance Ensemble Berlin (FDEB) wants to take stock and tell the stories that need to be told so politicians, policymakers, and the public understand what is changing in our field and why it matters.
How have the funding cuts impacted YOU?
FDEB will be present at all RESIST! assemblies to introduce a new questionnaire intended to document your needs, current situations and make them visible. It can be filled out in your own time and anonymously if desired.“
