Call: R.E.D. Residencies 2025

Tanzfabrik Berlin is offering five artistic research residencies in 2025 for Berlin-based choreographers and artists working at the intersection of dance and community engagement.

The 2025 R.E.D. Residencies are thematically oriented and designed for artists whose practice actively engages with diverse communities and social contexts. Inspired by the concept of “social choreography” (Andrew Hewitt), the program sees choreography not only as an artistic expression but as a tool for social engagement—a way to interact with contemporary society and imagine new forms of collective life.

We particularly encourage proposals that create open, horizontal encounters with groups, communities, or audiences, especially if based in the neighbourhood of Wedding. This could take shape through dance, knowledge-sharing, or participatory creative processes. If your practice aligns with these ideas, we warmly invite you to apply.

Who can apply?
Applications are welcome from Berlin-based choreographers and dancers (official registration in Berlin required), regardless of age or background, who:
Are not enrolled in a university or training program (in dance or choreography) at the time of the residency
Do not receive any project funding or grant from the State of Berlin in 2025
The residency is designed as artistic research. It is not focused on producing a final piece or performance but rather on experimenting, rehearsing, and exploring artistic questions.

We strive to create a diverse and inclusive artistic environment and to tackle structural inequalities. Therefore, this year we would like to encourage:
↪  BIPoC to apply. At least one of the five residency spots is reserved for BIPoC.
↪ People in parenthood to apply. At least one of the five residency spots is reserved for artists with children.
